Imtiaz Ali reportedly decided not to cast Kareena Kapoor in his latest film Rockstar as she could not be romantically paired with first cousin Ranbir Kapoor.
The filmmaker was keen to work with Kareena again following the success of Jab We Met, reports Hindustan Times.
Ranbir said: “She’s hardworking, passionate and has had the opportunity to work with many good directors, including Imtiaz. It’s unfortunate that since we are related by blood, we couldn’t act together.”
The actor said that he hopes to work with Kareena in a future film project of a different genre.
“Maybe a film in which we are not meant to romance each other but play characters,” he said.
Ranbir will be seen later this month in Ali’s latest production opposite Nargis Fakhri. He said of the role: “I wanted to be an actor, play different parts, and Rockstar is a role of a lifetime.”
Ranbir and Kareena are the grandchildren of the late legendary actor-producer-director Raj Kapoor.
Raj was honoured by having a street named after him in the Canadian city of Brampton, Ontario earlier this year.
